Doug grew up playing minor and junior hockey in Thunder Bay, Ontario. As a juvenile goalie, he was MVP for the league winning and playoff champion Hornets Hockey Club. Doug has been the WCAHA Vice President for the past three years, he has been a coach, he plays in the Sportsplex adult league, and he's a referee. His son is a goalie and played on the Whatcom Warrior 2008-09 Playoff Champion Bantam team.
